Survey This!

Recently, Kuala Lumpur was found to be the third rudest or unfriendliest city in the world. I don't really know what survey it is because I caught it late when I was watching a morning talk show on tv. Anyway i think the survey is ridiculous. If you ask me, the survey itself is rude. On what criteria was the survey based on..... Do we have eye contact when we talk to someone? Do we shake hands when we meet? I think Malaysians as a whole are not eye contact people. That's our culture, that's how we behave. It's not rude, it's just the way we are. I'd like to see the scientific basis of the survey.

It's inconcievable to simply lump people of different cultures and religions into one category, just like you can't categorize animal in only one way. I'm not saying than we're no better than animals. I'm saying, humans are complex beings who are capable of a whole range of thought that's much more complex than animals. I mean u can't lump a cow and a tiger into the same category can you?? So, if animals can't be categorized together in that way, what makes whoever who did the survey think they can categorize humans in that way. What makes them think that people have the same way of defining what's rude or polite. People have different beliefs and different custom. What seems acceptable in one county might be considered rude in another.

A much better survey would be, for example: "What actions are considered rude to people from different countries". It is so simple to do a survey like "Which is the rudest or unfriendliest city" but the people who make surveys like this should know that there could be serious repercussions from something very simple. People might get the wrong impression of Malaysians as a whole eventhough the survey was only on Kuala Lumpur.

Just wanted to express my thoughts on this matter. It ticked me off and i just needed to vent.

totally agree; who says we should all congregate together. you watch animals, they don't mix. maybe this is why they exist in harmony!
Being different is not a problem; it's just being different. But feeling different is a problem. When you feel different, the feeling can actually change the way you see the world.

good to hear your views, ciao
