H.S Thompson

I came acrossthe news about the death of a well respected writer, Hunter S. Thompson. I've never actually read any of his works but i did come across a quote that i found interesting:

"Fiction is based on reality unless you're a fairy-tale artist. You have to get your knowledge of life from somewhere. You have to know the material you're writing about before you alter it."

I know a few people who look down on fiction novels. They prefer to read serious things like biographies, literature and poetry. They think that fiction novels are shallow and beneath them. But i agree with Thompson, fiction is based on real life. It's not based on a true story per se but it is based on real life in general. So to those who think fiction novels are beneath them, take sometime to get off that pedestal you've put yourself on and try to open up your mind to other literary options.
